Poems of grit, fun and nonsense. #bookmarkquinn

8th March

With it being International Women’s Day I thought it would only right to publish a poem and a haiku.

The poem below was on the local radio yesterday ALLfm in Manchester, it was very pleased.

I hope you all enjoy the poem.

Fly High Gal
By Mark Quinn

Amy Johnson was her name,
flying a plane was her fame.
She set off from Croydon in a secondhand plane
and nineteen days later they all knew her name.
For she landed in Port Darwin in the land of Oz,
and all because,
she was the first woman to fly.
Hitting the sky so high,
she didn’t need a halo
– she flew to Australia, solo.
In her Gipsy Moth with courage and grit,
this brilliant lady was a Brit.
With guts and determination,
she flew solo from nation to nation.
She broke many more records after that,
Amy Johnson, I take off my hat.
For you are a woman
and a woman so dear
– not forgetting, you were the first female ground engineer.

Amy Johnson
